Skepta & Jammer (Más Tiempo)
Mixmag Lab London
Of course Skepta and Jammer would show up to Mixmag Lab and decide to play house music. We're not complaining; it's a welcome detour from the expected, and the Más Tiempo alias hints at longer, sweatier grooves. The Lab is suitably dim, all red lights and intent faces, as if we're all in on the joke that two grime icons are about to take us on a 4AM journey. Technically, this Skepta & Jammer live set is a masterclass in tech-house propulsion, locked into a steady 129 BPM with the harmonic center firmly in 12A.
The energy profile is all about that low-end throb—avg lows at 0.79—with minimal mid-range interference and just enough high-end sparkle to keep it from feeling murky. Mixing is seamless and functional, prioritizing flow over flashy cuts, and the arc builds patiently, letting basslines dictate the room's pulse. For crate diggers, the opener BLR & Rave & Crave's 'Taj' sets a deep, percussive tone, while Skepta's own 'Fiesta No Siesta' with J Kolo is a riotous, horn-led party starter. Sante's 'Sunset Blvd' provides a moment of driving, melodic release, and the Franky Rizardo remix of Charles Ramirez's 'Up & Down' is a peak-time weapon of pure groove.
Don't sleep on Marcos Salas's 'Obreros' either—a gritty, rolling cut that keeps the pressure on. The journey here is clear: from the atmospheric build of 'Taj', we ascend through the celebratory chaos of 'Fiesta No Siesta', peak around the emotive stretch of 'Smoke In Your Eyes', and descend into the driving, hypnotic closer, Paquito Salazar's 'Malfunction'.
