Awakenings Festival 2018 Sunday - Liveset Adam Beyer
Area V
Adam Beyer at Awakenings Festival 2018, Area V—this is the sound of several thousand people agreeing that a kick drum is, in fact, a philosophy. We are here to submit to the loop. The vibe is pure industrial-grade euphoria: a vast, dark warehouse space punctuated by laser grids and the collective sweat of a committed techno army. This is a textbook hard techno set, averaging a punishing 130.3 BPM with a relentless focus on the 12A key, creating a monolithic, driving harmonic foundation. Beyer's technique is all about power and precision, using tight, punchy mixes and long overlays to build and release tension in waves.
The energy is overwhelmingly concentrated in the low-end (75%), meaning every track is built on a foundation of earth-shaking, distorted kicks and sub-bass, while the mid-range is reserved for razor-sharp hi-hats, claps, and the occasional acid squelch. The high-end is present just enough to keep the texture crisp and cutting through the fog. The tracklist is a arsenal of peak-time weapons. Arjun Vagale's 'Murmer' is a brutal, efficient opener. The rework of Celeda & Danny Tenaglia's 'Music Is the Answer' is a genius slice of classic vocal techno revival.
F.Sonik's 'Simplon' delivers hypnotic, loop-based pressure, and Beyer's own 'Space Date' is a timeless, driving banger. The inclusion of the Emmanuel Top 'Acid Phase' rework is a welcome nod to rave history. It begins with the militant stomp of 'Murmer', builds to a frenetic peak with tools like 'Simplon' and the tribal-inflected 'Berimbau Safado', and closes with the epic, melodic crescendo of Enrico Sangiuliano's 'Symbiosis', a final moment of triumphant release.
