Awakenings Festival 2019 Saturday - Live set Bart Skils & Victor Ruiz
Area V
A back-to-back set from Bart Skils & Victor Ruiz at Awakenings Festival 2019's Area V is exactly the kind of synergy we nerds live for—two masters of deep, rolling techno locking into a hypnotic, 127.3 BPM groove. Imagine a vast tent pulsing with minimalist lighting, where every hi-hat and sub-bass ripple feels magnified in the collective focus. Dominated by the 12A key, this deep techno journey is built on a foundation of relentless, low-slung rhythm (avg_low 0.67), with subtle melodic textures and atmospheric layers that unfold over extended, patient mixes.
Their technical prowess lies in the seamless blending of 74 tracks, creating a continuous, evolving soundscape that prioritizes mood over obvious peaks. Crate highlights include the impeccable opening choice, 'Maae - Descartes', a track of pure atmospheric tension, followed by their own collaboration 'Bart Skils & Weska - Lost on You', which injects a melodic, emotional hook. 'Veerus - Phase' is a timeless piece of driving, minimal funk, and 'Cappo & Mondragon - Comedown' provides a darker, heads-down moment of pure groove.
The journey starts with the spatial depth of 'Descartes', weaves through percussive gems like 'Wigbert - Balance', and concludes with the understated, resonant thump of 'Albanez - Go Back', leaving us submerged in the afterglow.
