Live at Anjunadeep x Printworks London 2021
CRi’s live set for Anjunadeep at the cavernous Printworks London is the audio equivalent of a warm hug that suddenly makes you want to cry—we’ve all been there, pretending a speck of dust got in our eye. This tracklist is for anyone who needed that cathartic, 4am emotional release in the dark, surrounded by strangers who somehow understand. The vibe is quintessential Printworks: that industrial grandeur, shafts of light cutting through darkness, and a crowd riding every swell of the music together. This is deep, melodic house with a soulful pulse, anchored at a comfortable 120.7 BPM and harmonically rooted in the moody, introspective 8B.
The energy balance shows a beautiful equilibrium between low and mid frequencies, creating a rich, warm soundscape where basslines support emotive chords and vocals rather than dominate them. CRi’s live approach is organic and song-led, with transitions that feel like natural progressions in a story, using key shifts into 6B and 12A to lift the mood from melancholy to hopeful. The track selection is impeccable. He begins with his own 'Runaway', its yearning synth lines an immediate heart-tugger.
The inclusion of Basic Channel’s timeless 'Phylyps Trak II/II' is a deep cut that shows serious pedigree, a minimalistic masterpiece dropped with perfect timing. Joezi & Lizwi’s 'Amathole' brings a gorgeous, African-inspired rhythmic shuffle, while Alan Fitzpatrick’s 'Rumours' appears in a surprisingly deep, dubbed-out form. His own 'Losing My Mind' is the poignant, vocal-led centrepiece that defines the set’s emotional core. The journey starts with the intimate 'Runaway', builds through the rhythmic depth of tracks like 'Amathole', and concludes on a note of serene, slightly sad beauty with K!R4’s 'Sonata Palace'.
