Sickflip | The Lab Mumbai
Mixmag
Sickflip's set for The Lab Mumbai is a refreshingly eclectic tour through progressive house and melodic electronica, proving that you can have emotional depth without sacrificing a solid four-to-the-floor pulse. It's the kind of mix you put on for a long, contemplative drive, where the scenery changes but the forward momentum never wavers. The vibe is intelligent and immersive, suited for headphones or a discerning dance floor, with a focus on narrative and texture. Averaging 125.2 BPM and favouring the melancholic yet hopeful keys of 7A and 12A, the energy balance is thoughtfully crafted: lows at 0.59 provide a warm, propulsive bed, mids at 0.38 carry the intricate melodies, and highs are minimal at 0.03, keeping everything smooth and polished.
The mixing is fluid and musical, allowing tracks to breathe and tell their own stories before seamlessly transitioning. The track selection is a delight for connoisseurs. Pryda's 'Animal' is a monstrous, driving progressive house opener that sets a high bar. Morgan Page's 'The Longest Road' via the Deadmau5 remix is a timeless, vocal-led epic that tugs at the heartstrings.
Sébastien Tellier & Slayyyter's 'Thrill of the Night' is a funky, modern disco surprise, and Floyd Lavine's 'Masala' remix provides a perfectly organic, percussive closing chapter. Gab Rhome's 'La Maison' remix is a deep, jazzy highlight, and Ninetoes' 'Mandala' offers a dose of intricate, tech-house groove. The journey kicks off with the relentless energy of 'Animal,' passes through the emotional peak of 'The Longest Road,' and winds down with the sun-drenched rhythms of 'Masala.'.
